LB remote I/O supports all single width and dual width I/O modules with HART communication via PROFIBUS DP V1 or service bus. Thereby signals from NAMUR sensors, mechanical contacts, high-power solenoid drivers, power relays, sounders, and alarm LEDs are transported to PROFIBUS DP. This modular signal conditioning system allows signals to be interfaced from the field with a control system in the non-hazardous area via the following connections:

• safe area field connections (Non-Ex)
• intrinsically safe area field connections (Ex i)

The com unit for 80 analog or 184 digital channels can be easily configured via DTM and supports redundancy. The engineering is easy and adaptable to the needs of each plant concept.

• Configuration via GSD parameters from the control system
• I/O modules can be mounted on the backplane in any order
• 1 - 8 channel I/O modules
• Non-volatile memory for configuration and parameter settings
• Self-configuration in redundant systems
• Permanently self-monitoring
• Outputs drive to safe state in case of failures
• Module can be exchanged under voltage
• Supports the FDT concept

For dust hazardous area mounting (Zone 22, Class II/Div. 2), the system needs to be mounted in a cabinet that meets special specifications: the enclosure must be protected against falling dirt, circulating dust, and windblown dust.
