Quick Integration with Requirements Based Interfaces

The Simple Device Application Interface (SDAI) is a lean, very easy-to-integrate interface with suffcient functionality to meet the requirements of the typical use cases. Other Industrial Ethernet protocols, such as EtherNet/IP and EtherCAT, are also supported. If needed, the PROFINET Access Kit (PNAK) provides access to all implemented protocol functions.

Sophisticated Architecture for Optimal Portability

The protocol software (stack) was designed right from the outset with software portability in mind. For this reason, the stack consists of three components. The protocol functions are appropriately structured and implemented in the kernel, while the Porting Layer offers excellent flexibility with regards to the target platform. If the PROFINET specification is expanded, Softing will proactively implement the required changes for their own leading edge developments. Only the modified kernel needs to be integrated in the device, if required. The third stack component is the API (Application Programming Interface) that provides access to the device functionality.

High Stability and Performance Through Clearly Structured Code

To ensure optimum data throughput, the code was programmed with particular attention to minimizing cross relationships with the underlying system. This combines a low system load with a reduced resource consumption for protocol processing in the device and increases system stability.
