IO-Link Interface and System Specification



IO-Link defines a fieldbus-independent communication interface for intelligent sensors and actuators in factory automation. The scope of this specification work focuses on the transmission physics (electrical and mechanical properties, topology), sensor/actuator communication with the IO assemblies, and a neutral data interface to the higher-level communication system. IO-Link allows an inexpensive point-to-point connection between sensor/actuator and the I/O assembly for the "last meter to the process". Diagnosis and parameter information between sensor/actuator and the automation system will be exchanged with IO-Link in addition to the measurement signal through the specified communication mechanism, thereby maximizing the performance of state-of-the-art intelligent sensors and actuators.


IO-Link Addendum

Over time, the IO-Link community realizes a number of possibilities to streamline, simplify, and enhance the system. The corresponding recommendations are collected in this document, called Addendum. Designers and implementers are invited to consider the issues as early as possible since they will be incorporated in the next release of the core IO-Link specifications and will become mandatory.
